I can’t believe Labor Day is almost here! Saying goodbye to summer is never easy, but thankfully we’ve got an extra long weekend to live it up. Whether you’re hosting or attending a get together this weekend, the following recipes will be sure to have guests feeling like they’re attending a 1950’s soirée. To snack on, I've got two tasty recipes - a decadent smoked trout deviled egg recipe from The Kitchn as well as a tasty classic ham salad. To ease the pain of summer ending, we need a cocktail, yes? A classic Bloody Mary recipe from Mad Men's cocktail guide is the perfect solution. Here we go!
Smoked Trout Deviled Eggs www.thekitchn.com/appetizer-recipe-smoked-trout-deviled-eggs-176496
I love eggs in general, but I think I have an addiction to deviled eggs. With the addition of salty smoked fish they're just downright bonkers! I followed the recipe first and then adjusted it to my taste. Personally, I liked it with a little more mustard and lemon juice than the recipe called for. For the perfect hard boiled eggs every time, I use this awesome method.
You'll need: 1 c. ham, processed into small chunks in food processor ½ c. celery, diced fine 2 tbs minced red onion 1 tsp stone ground mustard 2 tbs minced dill pickles ¼ c. mayo ½ tsp fresh ground pepper
Throw all ingredients into a medium size bowl and mix. I’ve omitted salt since I think the ham adds enough salt. However, definitely taste and season to your preference! Serve alongside crackers, or spread onto bread and slice into tea sandwiches as I’ve done. This recipe will make 12 tea sandwiches.

Believe me, I'm totally a fan of all the crazy Bloody Mary recipes out there, but for a true throw-back, stick to the classic! Use that can of tomato juice and garnish with a simple celery stalk.
I hope you enjoy these tasty retro recipes. Have a safe and fun Labor Day weekend!
